Course Description:
This is a course that combines a comprehensive analysis of the United Nations with simulation techniques and role games. Students are encouraged to take part in this class by looking at both theoretical and practical aspects of the United Nations and, thereafter, taking part in several practical exercises of negotiation and crisis situations. Therefore, this class has two parts. First, we will explore the history, structure and functioning of the entire UN apparatus. Students will work in groups in order to cover all major areas including security, human rights, development and the environment. Secondly, we will undertake several simulation sessions, in which students will model a UN body and represent an assigned country through which they will discuss specific topics and find proper solutions thereto.
