Course Description:
This course meets 3 times a week for 90 minute sessions. It is designed to introduce
biology students to the fundamental principles of chemistry. Topics to be covered include
atomic structure, chemical equations, the periodic table, chemical bonding and
intermolecular interactions, thermochemistry, reaction spontaneity, reaction rates,
chemical equilibria, acid base chemistry and reactions in aqueous systems. Emphasis will
be given to applications of chemical principles in biological systems.
