Course Description: On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: To enable students to discuss critically the core principles underpinning prosecutions and criminal courts To understand the legal framework and processes for prosecutions and criminal trials. Understand the operation of prosecutions and trials in practice and the impact of these on both victims and defendants. Engage critically with key concepts such victims and defendant's rights. Identify, explain and analyse theoretical frameworks for evaluating the criminal justice process, including human rights. Development of skills in socio-legal research and writing while engaging with the academic literature in the field. Communicate ideas clearly and effectively in writing, including the ability to use and build upon academic argument. Present ideas in a fluent and cogent manner, using specialist sociological and legal terminology correctly.
