Course Title: Seminar The Economics of Exchange Rates

Course Description: This course concentrates on exchange-rate theory and policy. The seminar has five parts. It begins with a review of important concepts related to foreign exchange markets. This is followed by a discussion of different models of exchange rate determination and their policy implications. In the third part, we will discuss exchange market efficiency and the forecasting of exchange rates. The fourth part looks at what constitutes an optimal currency area and implications for the euro area. In the last part of the seminar, we will study the currency crises. Topics and emphasis may differ per semester, depending on the actuality.
