This seminar covers recent topics in International Trade. Among others, the following questions are explored: Can international trade help countries grow rich? Does international trade cause inequality? Who is for and against trade in politics, and why? Why do countries have trade surpluses/deficits, and to which extent are such imbalances problematic? What are the causes and effects of trade wars?
The seminar combines economic theory, quantitative empirical evidence, and historical case studies to throw light on these topics.
