Course Title: Digital media and health communication
Course Number: CM2088
Course Description: As digital media become ubiquitous, they affect how we circulate information about health. The changes are multi-folded: (1) organisations are now more connected to their clients and, then, have to provide accessible venues for communication; (2) patients are not only connected to organisations, but also to each other, circulating information and creating narratives without the need of a mediator; and (3) the hyperconnected society provides different social constructions that shape health communication. These digital practices concern citizens and researchers interested in the health arena, as well as professionals in the field of communication who aspire to work for healthcare industries. Those in the field have now to understand the impacts of digital media on how they will posit themselves and produce discourse, mainly by adapting to a society that is actively exchanging health information online.
