Course Description: Northeast Asia is not only interesting but also significant region in world politics given the challenges and changes that it has been through in the aftermath of the World War II. Following intense military competitions between superpowers and among the states in the region during the Cold War, it has emerged as one of the major regional markets in global economy. The three largest economies such as the US, China and Japan and new developed economies like South Korea and Taiwan have competed with each other in the post-Cold War. However, the economic transactions and prosperity are not accompanied with political cooperation and stability. From the geopolitical point of view, the region is still a vortex of global power struggle between hegemonic powers of the US and China, the rising competitor like Russia, and the militarily resurgent Japan.
