This course gives an overview of the history of Japan.
The course will provide an account of the major political events and historical characters associated with
each period. An overview will also be given of the main social, economic, and cultural trends that were
taking place in the background during each period.
Students will also read example passages from historic texts or historic novels for each class and these
will form the basis for more general class discussions
