Course Description: Since the establishment of the government in 1948, governance in the Republic of Korea has experienced myriad challenges and developments. Explaining Korea’s politics and foreign policy, requires understanding of the various internal and external developments. This course examines the structure, processes, circumstances in Korea’s politics and foreign policy since 1945. The first half of the course will address the governance and key developments and issues to date. The second half of the course will then look at Korea’s foreign policy in the context of economics, environment, foreign aid, security, public diplomacy, and inter-Korea relations, as well as discussing the future prospects and issues. The course will develop the students’ analytical skills and knowledge the structure, processes, and circumstances in Korea’s governance and foreign policy. In each class, PPT will be used to visually illustrate the concepts and developments.
