This course aims to improve our understanding of relations among the nations in East Asia. The course assumes that students have completed an introductory level course in International Relations. Japan’s wealth and military spending give it the ability and potential to alter the balance of power in the East Asian region. Will it play a leadership role in helping to sustain the liberal economic order in the face of China’s economic challenge, and/or in the COVID19 pandemic crisis?
