In this course students will examine Japan's dynamic and diverse media environment, which is both a reflection of and an influence on the country's unique culture. We will look at the more complex issues in the field with a discursive and industry focus. Class topics will emphasize the role of the media in the construction of reality, and dissemination of political and cultural discourses. In addition, we will be considering various aspects of production and reception issues by looking at real world cases.
