Course Description:
The aim of this course is to develop an understanding of the application of EIA to planning and environmental decision-making. The course uses case studies that illustrate environmental impacts on natural and socio-economic systems, set in the context of the legal and political frameworks in Australia, particularly NSW. Students will evaluate the rationale, techniques used, and research needs of impact assessment with particular reference to Australia. Students will develop an understanding of current approaches and emerging trends in EIA. The course has been developed to cater for students from different programs at UNSW. There
is a strong vocational emphasis in the course.
