At the end of this course, students need to be able to: • Understand and apply the European human rights framework to the use of big data by public and private actors in various public security domains, with a focus on the rights to human dignity, life, privacy, protection of personal data, freedom of expression, non-discrimination, and fair trial. • Analyze which human rights are at stake with the use of big data applications by public and private actors in a specific context and whether such use of big data violates those human rights. • Understand the relationship between the General Data Protection Regulation and the fundamental right to data protection as protected by primary law. • Evaluate the use of big data by public and private actors with a view towards human rights, and make judgments about such use of big data. • Evaluate whether the existing European human
