Course Description: Laws have deeply affected the lives of minority groups in the U.S., and have been a source of both empowerment and deprivation. This course will look at some of the laws and legal issues surrounding minorities, with attention to historical, political and social contexts. The groups that will be covered are 1) African Americans, 2) Asian Americans, 3) Hispanics, 4) women, and 5) LGBTs. (Weeks 2 - 5 focuses on African Americans, Weeks 7 - 11 on immigrant minorities, and Weeks 13 - 15 on gender and sexual orientation)
