Course Description:
Political conversation and political theory often appeal to terms like freedom, justice, rights, or power. However, the opinion of such terms or concepts is often complex and controversial. In order to better navigate this complexity, we will take a closer look at a number of fundamental political terms in this introductory seminar. We examine the different ways in which these terms can be constructed, what consequences different constructions have, and we ask what advantages and disadvantages the respective interpretations can have. In particular, we will deal with the following terms: freedom, justice, equality, rights, power, politics, and ideology.
The proseminar is in German, but most of the readings are in English.
