The course will investigate and explore the enduring language and imagery of monsters and the monstrous in contemporary cultures, through the languages of literature and art. The course will have a dual focus, with the intention of: examining the creation of specific monsters, as well as assessing the role, function and consequences of literary and artistic creations, actions or events identified as monstrous. To do so, different queer theories will be employed as a tool kit to address the different languages of the monsters and the monstrous.
