Course Description:
After completion of the course students are expected to be able to:
1. Understand the general framework of the foundation and implementation of environmental law.
2. Analyze the achievements of international environmental law in specific areas such as biodiversity, climate
change, desertification and ozone layer protection.
3. Discuss in a comprehensive manner theoretical and practical issues relating to the application of the
framework of global commons and resources management.
4. Analyze the objectives, principles and competences of European environmental law.
5. Link EU environmental policy to the free market, agriculture and fisheries, transport and energy sectors.
6. Provide scientific assessment on issues relating to the concepts of environmental impact assessment,
environmental liability, industrial emissions, air quality and noise pollution.
7. Understand both theoretically and practically through the study of secondary law and judgments, issues
related to the regulation of the protection of water, waste, chemicals and genetically modified
