This course is an introduction to politics and policymaking in contemporary Korea. The course begins with an overview of diverse theoretical, cultural, and historical perspectives on Korean politics and then examines three thematic areas: 1) political and social dynamics of democratic transformation; 2) the political economy of development, crisis, restructuring, and recovery; and 3) the debate on how to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula.
