Course Description:
This course aims to enhance academic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as develop significant
critical thinking and research skills essential in an academic community and beyond. Texts on contemporary issues from
various disciplines including newspaper articles, autobiographies, essays and peer reviewed journal articles will be
examined. Close reading of texts will be the basis for discussions, debates, exercises and written assignments. Podcasts,
blogs and short videos will also be used to practice Academic English skills. Themes and skill areas are selected to
complement and enrich the learning experience of students of all fields.
