Course Description:
The Psychopathology course is designed to study psychological disorders, their identifiers, and their treatments in depth. Generally, depression disorder, anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and autism spectrum disorder as well as other important disorders such as DEHB will be explored in depth throughout the course. The course relies mainly on the DSM and ICD frameworks when identifying and classifying disorders as well as exploring the processes behind these identifications. Students look at the genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors behind these disorders when studying the etiology. The course also covers clinical settings, and explores the technicalities of diagnosing, while looking at the psychometric and behavioral measures. Therapeutic techniques spanning from psychotherapy and medications to neurofeedback and differentiation are explored on a more basic level as well. Moreover, ethical concerns in therapy as well as cultural and social factors on psychological health may also be covered in class.
