Film is studied as an important part of Scandinavian modernity and as a regional massart that has developed according to approximately the same pattern as found in the
dominating AngloSaxon film industry, while at the same time being shaped into a
regional and national alternative to the dominating film. In this context, individual works
by film directors such as Ingmar Bergman will be discussed.
