This course is an introduction to second language acquisition (SLA). Although the course is designed to be
accessible to students from a wide variety of backgrounds, some basic knowledge of the linguistic structure of
English will be assumed. This course will address theoretical and practical issues related to how a second
language (L2) is learned both by children and adults. We will look at the major schools of thought and concepts
that underpin the field of SLA and will begin to apply these to learner language in analyses of L2 data
