Course Description: Clinical Psychology reviews theory in the area of psychotherapy treatment. In this course we will examine different theories in the field of psychotherapy within a multicultural context in order to understand the advantages and limitations of each one. Among the theories to be reviewed are the ones that have given rise to: cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, person-centered therapy, Adlerian approaches, Gestalt therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Upon completing the class, students will understand the complexity of clinical treatment and will be able to appreciate the importance of an ethical practice based on the ability to integrate different perspectives and critically evaluate the scientific literature.
