Course Description:
The major goal of this course is not a theoretical inquiry nor an
ideological debate, but an analytical issue appraisal. As it grows to a global player, China has produced an explosive number of
complicated issues in and out of China. With the rise of Xi Jinping as a leader, China has launched several government-sponsored initiatives, including BRI and New Type of Great Power Relationship. In addition, many of which initiatives draw international attention. Also, US-China trade disputes have served as sources of China-related international issues. We will deal with more than 10 issues worth reviewing in this class, including Xi Jinping’s leadership consolidation, China’s soft power and sharp power, China’s Belt and Road Initiative, Made in China 2025, and Hong Kong/Taiwan issue.
