The course is targeted for English learners as a second language. We'll frequently compare and discuss sounds of other languages (e.g., Korean), in order to obtain knowledge about cross-linguistic similarities and differences
and use that knowledge for practical purposes. For example, by the end of the semester, you'll be able to understand physical relationships between articulatory movements and acoustic properties of different speech sounds, and thus be able to use this knowledge for improving your pronunciation and recognition (though this course is not aimed at improving pronunciation).
