The main objectives of the course are to:
• develop the student’s capacity for analysis, synthesis and interpretation of representative
works from colonial and post-colonial fiction from the Caribbean, India, Africa and
Australia
• foster comprehensive general knowledge of relevant critical theory with which to
investigate the works of colonial and postcolonial writers in English
• develop research skills appropriate to the field demonstrated in coherent essays and
assignments
• foster critical reasoning as evident in interpretations of representative literary texts
